“ Located right off of Hilyard, I've driven past South Hills Cafe 10000x and I've always wanted to stop in. This family owned and operated establishment is a great local spot to grab some breakfast. They close in the early afternoon and open later in the day for late lunch/dinner with a taqueria menu! With the ducks playing Cal + parents weekend for the undergrads, I was worried there would be a long wait. I was impressed we (a party of 2) were seated almost immediately and the service was really fast despite it being busy and only having a couple of servers. Kudos to the incredible servers and kitchen staff -- they were HUSTLING and I appreciated their hard work and kind service! Now for the food. Large portions, tasty food, very reasonable prices ($12-15/person). My omelet was huge and packed with veggies, sausage, and cheese and the hashbrowns were extra crispy. The toast was soft but perfectly toasted. The scramble also looked incredible for the same reasons and can accurately be described as "good" . Lastly, I always love a sweet & savory balance for breakfast so we shared a single pancake. The pancakes are HUGE and are so chewy and delicious, especially topped with butter and syrup. There's a small parking lot, so carpool if you can. While there's a good amount of indoor seating, keep in mind larger groups will likely need to wait especially during the morning rush. “ Ok so I have lived 3 minutes away for years now and I finally made it in. The atmosphere is fine. Sort of smells like cleaner in the restaurant. The service was excellent. Fast and very friendly. I liked that at 10am on a Saturday they had a table available without a wait. They serve espresso which is nice too! Their menu is standard greasy spoon with a couple latin classics. We ordered the California Benedict and pancakes. Everything was just fine. Nothing to rave about, but nothing was bad. We will be back. I gave it a four star review because it was super easy and fast. ”

Super friendly, great service, with never ending pots of coffee. I loved my chorizo and egg scramble with the crispiest hashbrowns. Plenty of seating and lots of natural light coming through the big windows. Convenient location and plenty of parking. ”
